1. The goal

What should the site do: generate enquiries, sell products, showcase your work? Pick one main goal and one or two secondary goals.

2. The audience

Describe your customers: who they are, what they look for and which devices they use. The clearer the target, the more effective the site.

3. Pages and content

List the pages you need and who provides the text, photos and logos. A simple sitemap on one page is enough.

4. Features

  • Contact or quote form
  • Booking, payments or customer accounts
  • Blog and news
  • More than one language

5. Style and references

Share two or three websites you like and say why. Add your brand guidelines if you have them.

6. Budget and deadline

Give a budget range and the date the site must go live. This lets the agency propose the right solution.

7. How you will decide it is done

Say who approves each step and how you will measure success: enquiries, visits or sales. Good briefs end with simple success criteria.
