How Google ranks local businesses
Google looks at three ideas: relevance (does your profile match the search?), distance (how close are you to the person?) and prominence (are you well known and well rated?). You cannot change distance, but you can improve relevance and prominence.
Your Google Business Profile comes first
It is your storefront on Google Search and Maps. Complete every section: exact name, address, phone number, opening hours, categories, description, website and booking link. An incomplete or outdated profile costs you customers, even if your business is excellent.

Get an estimateKeep your details consistent
Your business name, address and phone number should be identical on your profile, website, social pages and directories. Differences confuse both Google and customers. Write the address in the same format everywhere.
Photos, menu and services
Add real photos of the entrance, the dining room or rooms, the dishes and the team. Keep the menu, prices, features such as outdoor seating or accessibility, and holiday hours up to date. Fresh information builds trust.
Reviews matter
Recent and frequent reviews reassure visitors and influence local ranking. Ask regularly, never buy reviews or offer rewards for them, and reply to each one with care.
Add a local page to your website
Create a page that describes your venue, the neighbourhood, how to get there and how to book. Include:
- The full address and an embedded map
- How to reach you: transport, parking, accessibility
- Opening hours and a booking button
- Real photos and a few sentences about the area
Use natural local words: the city, the district, the type of cuisine or accommodation.
Local citations and links
Be listed in reputable directories, tourism websites and local media when possible. Every consistent mention of your business adds credibility.
Track your results
In your Google Business Profile, watch calls, direction requests and website clicks. In Search Console, look for searches that include your city or district. Write the numbers down every month to see progress.
Common mistakes
- Adding keywords to the business name, which breaks the rules

Frequently asked questions
How long before I see results?
Profile fixes often show within a few weeks. Local ranking then improves with reviews and consistency.
Do I need a website to appear on Google Maps?
It is not mandatory, but a clear website completes the profile and reassures visitors.
Can I manage several locations?
Yes. Each location needs its own profile and its own page on your website.
