Why reviews matter so much
Before contacting a business, many people read its reviews. A high rating, enough reviews and recent comments reassure them. Reviews also contribute to local ranking, because they show that the business is active and appreciated.
The rules to respect
Google regulates how reviews are collected. In practice:
- Do not buy or invent reviews
- Do not offer a reward in exchange for a review
- Do not ask only the customers you know are happy
- Do not write reviews for your own business or for competitors
Breaking these rules can lead to reviews being removed or the profile being penalised.

Get an estimateAsk at the right moment
The best time is right after a good experience: a meal finished, a stay completed, a project delivered, a satisfied customer. A short, polite and personal request works much better than a generic message sent to everyone.
Make it easy
Use the direct review link from your Google Business Profile, which you can copy from the profile. Put it in a QR code at your counter, on invoices, on tables or in a thank-you email. The fewer the steps, the more answers you get.
Ready-to-use messages
Two examples to adapt:
- In person: “Thank you for coming! If you enjoyed it, a Google review would help us a lot. Here is the link.”
- By message: “Hello [name], thank you for your trust. If you have 30 seconds, your review would help us improve: [link].”
Replying to a positive review
Say thank you, mention a detail from the visit or project and invite them back. A short, sincere reply is enough, and it shows readers that you pay attention.
Replying to a negative review
Stay calm and factual. Thank the customer for the feedback, acknowledge the problem if there is one, offer a solution or a private conversation and keep it short. Future customers read your reply too: it shows how seriously you take service far more than the review itself.
What to do with abusive or fake reviews
If a review breaks Google’s rules, such as insults, off-topic content or fake reviews, report it from your profile. Keep a record, stay polite in public and never reply in the same tone.
Build a routine
- Pick a fixed moment each week to send requests
- Assign one person to reply to reviews
- Track the number of reviews and average rating every month
- Share good feedback with the team
Frequently asked questions
How many reviews do I need?
There is no exact threshold. Aim for consistency: a few recent reviews each month beat one old batch.
Is a negative review a disaster?
Not necessarily. A few negative reviews that you answer well make the whole profile more credible.
Can I ask for reviews on WhatsApp?
Yes, with a personal and polite message sent to customers you are already in touch with.
